KAMLOOPS – Construction in the city has been in full swing for awhile now, but here's a look at what to expect this week.

Work will start today, June 29, on the south sidewalk of Columbia Street, including pouring concrete between Third and Fifth Avenues. Pedestrians are asked to use the north sidewalk and crosswalk at Fourth Avenue or Third Avenue to access the south side businesses or the hospital. Only two lanes in either direction will be open on Columbia Street between Third Avenue and Sixth Avenue.

Work continues on the west lanes of the bridge deck and the west sidewalk of the Overlanders Bridge. Still only two lanes are open on the bridge in either direction and the Tranquille Road entry ramp remains closed to regular traffic.

On Thursday, July 2, the intersections of 12th Street and Surrey Avenue and 12th Street and Moncton Avenue will be fully closed with detours in effect. The following day, Friday, July 3, intersections of 12th Street and Selkirk Avenue and 12th Street and Sherbrooke Avenue will also be fully closed with detours in effect. The rest of the week will vary between single alternating traffic, two lane directional traffic, and local traffic only restrictions.

Crews are still working on widening Hugh Allan Drive between Pacific Way and Versatile Drive, as well as the addition of a roundabout, as they prepare for the opening the new casino later this summer. Night paving on Highway 1 from the Copperhead Drive overpass to the Sagebrush overpass also continues after Canada Day this week.
