WEST KELOWNA - A West Kelowna man has died after a crash between a pickup and a motorcycle on Highway 97 in that community last night.

RCMP say officers were called to a crash between a red Dodge Dakota pickup and a Suzuki motorcycle at about 9 p.m. yesterday, July 26 at the intersection of Highway 97 and Elk Road in West Kelowna.

The northbound motorcycle was hit by the pickup as the truck was completing a left turn from the southbound lanes of Highway 97 eastbound onto Elk Road, according to an RCMP media release.

The 37-year-old West Kelowna man on the motorcylce was severely injured at the scene and was rushed to hospital but died due to his injuries. The driver of the pickup was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The collision resulted in the highway being closed for several hours last night as RCMP collision analysts investigated the scene.

RCMP say while the official cause of the crash has not been released, witness accounts suggest the high rate of speed at which the motorcycle was driving may have played a role.

The RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are now investigating the incident.

If you witnessed this crash, and have not yet spoken to police, you are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
