Weekend alternatives to crowded beaches in Penticton

The second annual Great Ogopogo Bathtub Race takes place in Summerland this weekend.

PENTICTON - With temperatures expected to reach the mid-30s this weekend there are several activities for those who find the beaches too crowded.

The Sunshine Cabaret Summer Concert Series at Gyro Park continues this weekend with Nikita on Friday, Aug. 19 at Gyro Park, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 the Offramp Jazz Sextet performs.

The Great Ogopogo Bathtub Race takes place this weekend with two categories of bathtub boating available: the fun Putt-Putt race or the Paddle Fundrace. Action takes place at Powell Beach in Summerland on Saturday, Aug. 20. The event is a fundraiser for South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation

The Tragically Hip performs in A National Celebration free screening at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Aug. 20 starting at 5:30 p.m. The screening party is free to attend, but tickets must be obtained from the Valley First Box Office at the SOEC, available on a first come, first served basis.

The SOWINS Motorcycle toy run, Sunday, Aug. 21, is staging its inaugural run, with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Penticton Legion. The ride starts at 10 .M.
