Weekly Volunteer Highlights for Aug. 26 to Sept. 2, 2016.

Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
CIBC Run for the Cure Organizing Committee – Interested in being part of team, raising much needed funds for breast cancer research? Join us on the Kamloops Run Committee and have fun putting your skills to work. It takes a community to put on an event from helping out on Run Day to project managing the committee. Positions: Co-Run Director, Fundraising; Co-Run Director, Logistics; Registration Coordinator; Route Coordinator; Volunteer Coordinator. 19+ to volunteer. Co-Run Directors will lead a committee of new and returning coordinators who meet monthly, and then bi-weekly in Sept. Kamloops Blazers Hockey Club
Event Staff Volunteers - Many Different Positions - registration clerks, room attendants. Duties include: check in personnel, ticket scanning, handing out radios, flashlights, clothing, coordinating food and making coffee as needed. This is for all events, and not just for hockey. Volunteers should be physically fit, and able to walk up and down stairs. Need a good command of English, and good customer service skills. Volunteers must attend 30% of all events. BIG Little Science Centre
BLSC Volunteers - The BLSC is dedicated to developing a passion for the sciences in our community for kids of all ages through interactive displays, demos, and science shows. Many positions: visitor services, cashiers, room supervisors, science show demonstrators, display & science show designers/builders, marketing & business planners, and directors. 16+ to volunteer. Kamloops Immigrant Services
After School Club Mentor - We support children's academic, social, and emotional needs as they transition into Canadian Society. The After School club Mentors will meet weekly on Thursdays to improve reading or mathematics skills and also using games, art, stories, and sports to help children make new friends, practice their English and learn about Canadian culture to help improve their self-confidence and academic performance. 16+ to volunteer. Interior Community Services
Childminding Volunteers – The volunteers will help watch children while their parents are in learning sessions Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings 10am – noon. The volunteers will assist the staff in the children’s area to watch the children, and be an extra set of eyes and ears. Kamloops RCMP Victim Services Unit
Victim Support Worker - Volunteers provide front line services to victims of crime. Services may include provision of emotional support, crisis intervention, referrals, information regarding the police investigation and court process, court orientation and accompaniment, and assistance completing applications for compensation, restitution and victim impact statements. Must hold a clean and valid BC drivers license, be willing to go through a comprehensive police security screening and be willing to commit to the Unit for a period of one year post training. We are looking for volunteers who are mature, reliable, and flexible, have excellent interpersonal/communication skills and have a vested interest in helping victims of crime. Salvation Army
Community Services Helpers - The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help out in their community services department Tues. through Fri. mornings, and also Wed. evenings. Duties: handing out emergency hampers, serving meals, and also assisting with the upkeep of the department. 16+ to volunteer & family volunteering friendly. For more information, call 250-554-1611.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
In-School Mentoring - The volunteers will be a positive role model and have a desire to make a difference in the life of a child. Volunteers will spend one hour a week with a child (Your Little Buddy) in their elementary school, playing games, making arts and crafts, and just being friends for the duration of the school year. 15+ to volunteer. Kamloops Community Safety & Enforcement
Citizens on Patrol - Assist the police by providing extra eyes and ears in monitoring criminal activity. Volunteers are paired with a partner. Equipment and training are provided. Volunteers report crime, locate stolen vehicles, and assist in patrols of areas of interest to help make our community a safe place to live. Great experience for those interested in pursuing a career in policing. 19+ to volunteer. For more information call 250-828-3818.

Royal Inland Hospital
Cancer Clinic Support Volunteers - Looking for volunteers to support cancer patients by greeting them before treatments, provide refreshments, snacks, warm blankets, and converse with them. They are looking for the volunteers to be able to commit to at least a 4 hour shift. 18+ to volunteer. For more information call 250-314-2313.
