Weekly Volunteer Highlights from April 21 to April 28, 2016

Kamloops Dragon Boat Club
Dragon Boat Festival Volunteers - The Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival is looking for volunteers to help out with this year's festival on Aug. 6! Positions include: Boat Loaders, Registration/Info Table, Timer Assistants, Results Runners, and Security. A brief description of the jobs are below. 13+ to volunteer. Wildlife Park
Family Farm Assistants - The Wildlife Park is in need of volunteers to assist our zookeepers in maintaining a safe environment at our Home Hardware Family Farm. The volunteers will be interacting with the park guests as they interact with our goats! The Volunteers will also be keeping the barn area clean. 16+ to volunteer and family volunteering friendly (Ages 11 - 13 can volunteer with a parent). Kamloops Heritage Railway
Entertainers - The Kamloops Heritage Railway (Steam Locomotive 2141) is looking for entertainers for our Spirit of Kamloops Railtours (Jul. & Aug). Duties: singing, dancing, and acting; no experience necessary. Period costumes are supplied. All ages are welcome & family volunteering friendly; minors require parental or guardian written permission; shifts are Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays. manager@kamrail.com

Interior Community Services
Childminding Volunteers – The volunteers will help watch children while their parents are in learning sessions Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings 10am – noon. The volunteers will assist the staff in the children’s area to watch the children, and be an extra set of eyes and ears. Kamloops Heritage Railway
Onboard Attendants - The Kamloops Heritage Railway (Steam Locomotive 2141) is looking for onboard attendants for our Spirit of Kamloops Railtours (Jul. and Aug). Duties: passenger safety and relations, helping passengers to board the train & seating them, watching for ongoing safety infractions, interacting and taking photos with the passengers, and serving drinks & snacks. 19+ to volunteer, must be physically fit, and proficient in English; shifts are Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays. manager@kamrail.com

Arnica Artist Run Centre
Furniture Building Volunteers - Arnica is in need of volunteers to plan, and build some stools and benches for our art gallery. The volunteers will use their own woodworking tools & equipment in their own workshop. The volunteers will have to confirm their woodworking skills, and be able to collaborate on the project. 18+ to volunteer. Food Hamper Delivery Volunteers - The Oncore Seniors Society is looking for volunteers to deliver food hampers, using their own vehicle, from the food bank once a month to homebound seniors in Kamloops. 17+ to volunteer. 250-828-0600

Public Media Volunteers - The volunteers will visit businesses in Kamloops to confirm if Arnica is allowed to place event posters at their business. Board Members - The Kamloops Heritage Society is looking for board members who have a sincere interest in helping to preserve St. Andrews on the Square for future generations. The board members will be actively involved in fundraising, helping to make business decisions, and helping to cultivate relationships with the community to create cultural and educational opportunities. 19+ to volunteer. 250-377-4232

CFBX-FM
On Air/Off Air Radio Volunteers - CFBX is an entirely volunteer run and programmed radio station and is always looking for energetic and creative volunteers to help out on air and off air. The volunteers do not need to be TRU students to get involved. Many different positions: reception, database management, programming (music, spoken word, any language), on air hosting (any language), audio editing, interviewing, and writing. 14+ to volunteer. 250-377-3988

St. Andrews Volunteers - The Kamloops Heritage Society is looking for volunteers at St. Andrews on the Square for various events & duties. Volunteer Office Administrative Assistants - You can gain experience in your field in a supportive environment. A minimum requirement of 3-6 hours per week is required and preference will be given to applicants willing to put in a 6 month or longer time commitment. Medical Appointment Volunteers - This is great experience for those thinking of getting into the health care field. The volunteers will accompany residents on the Handidart to medical appointments such as orthopaedic shoe fittings, dentists, doctors, denturists, optometrists, etc. The volunteers must be able to physically push a wheelchair. 18+ to volunteer. 250-374-5671 Ext: 4410

Hamlets at Westsyde
Recreation Volunteers - The Hamlets provides assisted living and complex care services for seniors and young adults with acquired brain injuries. Volunteers are needed for one-to-one visits, special events, program support, walk and roll visits, helping staff with outings, and the buddy program. 16+ to volunteer.
