Weekly Volunteer Highlights for Feb. 18 to Feb. 25, 2016

Heart & Stroke Foundation
Punch Counter Volunteers - The Heart & Stroke Foundation is looking for Punch Counter Volunteers at our Heart and Stroke Punch-a-thon event at Kix 4 Chix on Sat. 27 Feb. from 9:30am to 12:30pm. 16+ to volunteer. Event Address: Kix 4 Chix 953 Laval Crescent #3, Kamloops, BC V2C 5P4. 250-372-3938

Wildlife Park
Family Farm Assistants - The Wildlife Park is in need of volunteers to assist our zookeepers in maintaining a safe environment at our Home Hardware Family Farm for the Spring Break & Easter Weekend from March 19th to April 3rd, 2016. The volunteers will be interacting with the park guests as they interact with our goats! The Volunteers will also be keeping the barn area clean. Out of the Cold Program
Out of the Cold Volunteers - The Out of the Cold Program is looking for volunteers on Wednesdays & Sundays from Nov. 01, 2015 to Mar. 31, 2016. This program provides warm meals and shelter for the homeless men & women of Kamloops. Duties: registration, distribution of clothing, helping to prepare hot meals, serving, bed making, and clean-up. 16+ to volunteer. 250-318-0236 or 250-573-3430

Canadian Cancer Society
Pin Distribution Coordinators – The Canadian Cancer Society are in need of volunteers to distribute and collect retail pin boxes to high-traffic locations in their community from March to May. Pin Distribution Coordinators Duties: provide progress updates, share concerns and develop plans; contact and secure the continued support of previous pin partners; identify and secure new pin partners; provide a list of confirmed locations, contact names and number of boxes required per location; manage the delivery and return of all Daffodil resources; and participate in the campaign debrief. Family Fun Night Volunteers - The Salvation Army is in need of enthusiastic volunteers to help out with meals, games, and activities for our Friday evening Family Fun Nights from 5pm-7pm. Duties: food prep, set-up/take down, games, crafts and other engaging activities with the families. A police information check including the vulnerable sector check is required. 19+ to volunteer. Canadian Cancer Society
Door-to-Door Campaign Leaders - The Canadian Cancer Society is currently seeking highly motivated, and enthusiastic Leaders to engage and coordinate canvassers during the Daffodil Month Residential Door-to-Door Campaign in April. The Leaders will assist in recruiting canvassers within their community, help maintain team enthusiasm throughout the campaign, and ensure canvassers have all the tools they need to conduct the campaign. Prior to the campaign, Leaders receive materials from the Regional Office and distribute kits to canvassers. Community Services Helpers - The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to help out in their community services department Tues. through Fri. mornings, and also Wed. evenings. Canadian Red Cross Society
Health Equipment Loan Program Volunteers - The Kamloops Red Cross is in need of volunteers for approximately 4 hours a week. Positions: Customer Service - the volunteers receive and lend equipment, data entry of loan specifics in the computer database, accept donations, answer the phone, and other duties; Equipment Repair, Inspection, & Cleaning - returned equipment is inspected, cleaned, and repaired as needed. 16+ to volunteer. 250-372-2334

CNIB
Vision Mate - Vision Mates provide one-to-one sighted assistance and companionship for a person who is blind or partially sighted. Duties include visiting with clients in their homes or other suitable environment, participating in activities together such as reading, walking, and assisting with errands such as grocery shopping. No driving is required. Minimum age is 19+, and volunteers need to be friendly, reliable, empathetic, and trustworthy. 250-374-8080

People in Motion
Bowling Leader - Volunteers will assist People in Motion members with bowling. This includes passing the members the bowling balls, pushing their wheelchairs, and assisting the members to get on and off the bus, and interacting with the group. Volunteers should be able to oversee the activity and liaison with the BowlerTime staff and the Program Coordinator and perform other duties as required. The volunteers must be mature, and be able to transport themselves to the bowling alley, and be able to interact with individuals who may have a variety of disabilities and be able to work independently. Special Olympics - Kamloops
Swim Club Helpers - The volunteers will help mentally challenged individuals, some who have competed nationally. Time & Location: Tuesdays from 6:15pm to 7:30pm at the YMCA/YWCA 400 Battle Street. There will be 4 athletes per coach, and the volunteers do not have to be in the water, but it would be appreciated. 16+ to volunteer. 250-573-1206 or 250-879-0589
