Visual arts program hosts Creative Day workshops for prospective students

Artists interested in UBC Okanagan’s visual arts program are invited to attend a series of Creative Day workshops on campus.

Creative Day workshops are fun, hands-on events organized by the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. Creative Days are an opportunity for prospective applicants to the Visual Arts Bachelor of Fine Arts Program or anyone interested in pursuing visual arts courses at UBC’s Okanagan to find out more about the program and facilities in the program.

The workshops will allow participants to learn new skills and to see what a university-level course is like. Participants will work with university faculty and staff, and have the chance to meet and talk with current students about program choices.

Upcoming Workshops:

Screen Printing T-Shirts—Saturday, January 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Digital Animation—Saturday, February 25, from noon to 3 p.m.
Frame Animation and Green Screen—Saturday March 25 from noon to 3 p.m.
How to Talk about Art: Exhibition Tour of Fourth-Year Show—Saturday, April 22 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Interactive Digital Media (Art Bots)—Saturday, May 20, from noon to 3 p.m.
Life Drawing (Draped Model)—Saturday, June 24, from noon to 3 p.m.
Sculpture Workshop—Saturday, July 22, from noon to 3 p.m.
Workshop seats are limited and pre-registration is suggested. Contact UBC’s Visual Arts coordinator Briar Craig at Briar.Craig@ubc.ca or 250 807-9765 for details.

Portfolio Day:

FCCS also hosts the second Portfolio Day for prospective applicants and interested young artists on Saturday, February 25,  from 10 a.m. to noon. Prospective applicants should bring no more than 8 to 10 artworks or images, and (or) up to three short videos which illustrate their best work while showing a range of explored media. Original artwork including finished pieces, work in progress, and sketchbooks is preferred. Prospective students can also present a digital portfolio on a laptop.

Portfolio Day is an opportunity for those interested in the program to come to campus and get pointers, in a relaxed and congenial atmosphere, about how to put a good portfolio together and to get feedback about their work and advice about how to take their work further.

For more information about UBC’s Portfolio Day, please contact Briar Craig at Briar.Craig@ubc.ca or 250 807-9765.
