Virtual open house for city park concept plan update

July 04, 2013 - 4:43 PM

Residents took time to share ideas for the development of an initial City Park Concept Plan – and now City staff want feedback on an updated version of the plan.

Some key changes include: improved picnic areas, separated cycling and pedestrian pathways, separated adolescent activities from children's amenities, improved waterfront access (boardwalk and diving tower), enhanced sporting infrastructure to appeal to a wider population, improved circulation within the park, minimized isolated spaces, maximized uses for a variety of park visitors and a  designated market/vendor area.

A park pavilion building of approximately 16,000 square feet would accommodate year-round activity and community uses, including leased space for Tourism Kelowna, public washrooms, potential room rentals for functions and recreation programs.

An open house held June 27 introduced the plan. Next steps will see a summary of all community input analyzed for appropriateness, feasibility and suitability for the long-term vision for the park, followed by a presentation to City Council.

The open house panels are available online until Monday, July 15 at kelowna.ca/mycitypark.
