Vehicle fires keep Kamloops crews busy

KAMLOOPS — Emergency crews attended two separate vehicle fires overnight, one off of Tranquille Road and another in Valleyview.

Cpl. Cheryl Bush says police attended a 'parts truck' on fire in an alley behind Tranquille Road around 8 p.m. The owner had discovered the fire and attempted to use his own extinguisher to put out the fire before the vehicle became engulfed.

There are no suspects or witnesses to that fire and though the fire department has been unable to establish the origin of the fire it is not believed to be electrical.

A few hours later, around 1 a.m., a call came in for a vehicle on fire off of Vicar's Road, near the river. The fire department extinguished the blaze and while highway maintenance workers saw activity in the area an hour beforehand they were unable to provide a description because of the darkness.

“It would not appear these incidences are connected at this point in time, there's nothing to suggest that,” Bush says, adding there were no injuries reported in either fire.
