Autopsy results revealed in death of Atlanta businesswoman

ATLANTA - A medical examiner says a bullet damaged several organs of a prominent Atlanta businesswoman who died from a gunshot wound to the back as she rode in a car near Piedmont Park.

Local news media reports the Fulton County Medical Examiner said Wednesday the bullet entered through the left, middle back of 63-year-old Diane McIver. The bullet damaged her diaphragm, adrenal gland, left kidney, pancreas and stomach.

McIver was in the front passenger seat with people she knew when a gun was discharged inside the vehicle. She died in surgery at Emory University Hospital on Sept. 24.

McIver's husband, Claud McIver, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he shot his gun on accident. No charges have been announced.

Diane McIver was president of Corey Airport Services, an Atlanta-based marketing company.
