PENTICTON – A big day for a pair of Penticton Vees as they get picked up by NHL teams in the entry draft.

Vees’ defenseman Miles Gendron (96) was drafted by the Ottawa Senators forward Jack Ramsey (95) was grabbed by the Chicago Blackhawks in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Gendron, celebrating his 18th birthday, was taken in the third round, 70th overall by the Senators. A dual citizen, Gendron has spent the last four years playing prep hockey at The River Schools in Weston, Mass.

Last season, the rear-guard was named the Independent School League’s MVP, won the league Sportsmanship award and was also named a league all-star, after putting up 22 points in 19 games. The accolades didn’t end there, as Gendron was the recipient of the John Carleton Award, given out by the Boston Bruins to best senior boy’s hockey player in eastern Massachusetts.

Gendron was ranked 74th amongst North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting ahead of this weekend’s draft. Gendron will patrol the blue-line for the Vees in the upcoming 2014-2015 season, before embarking on his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut in 2015.

Ramsey, 18, is set to return for his second season with the Vees after a solid rookie campaign in 2013-2014. The Minnesotan was taken in the seventh round, 208th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Last season, the two-way forward put up nine goals and 25 points in 57 regular season games. Ramsey flourished as one of the Vees best defensive forwards and top penalty-killers but did find his scoring touch in the BCHL playoffs, where he had eight points in 11 games, as the Vees advanced to the Interior Division Final. Ramsey is set to join the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in the fall of 2015.
