Two injured in Lake Country crash

LAKE COUNTRY - A traffic accident near the intersection of Beaver Lake Road and Highway 97 in Lake Country was serious enough to put two men in hospital last night.

The accident happened at 10:15 p.m. Witnesses told RCMP a white Cadillac was heading north on the highway at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash. The posted speed limit on Hwy 97 at the intersection is 50 km/h. The driver of the Cadillac lost control in a curve, crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado hauling a trailer. Both people in the Cadillac were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries with the passenger in worse shape than the driver.

The cause of the crash hasn't been determined though an RCMP collision reconstructionist collected information at the scene and is working on the analysis. Speed seems to be a contributing factor, Const. Kris Clark said in a press release. Alcohol was ruled out.

A 24-year-old man from Alberta could face potential dangerous driving charges depending on the outcome of the investigation.
