UPDATE: Two arrested in Kamloops after guns left in vehicle in plain sight, stolen property located in nearby residence

Original Publication Date March 09, 2016 - 1:25 PM

KAMLOOPS - Two men were arrested for gun and theft-related charges in the Westsyde area yesterday evening.

The detachment received a report about two suspicious males in a vehicle near Sandpiper Drive around 5:20 p.m., yesterday, March 8, Sgt. Darren Michels with Kamloops RCMP says.

After attending the area and locating the vehicle, unoccupied, officers noticed two long-barrelled firearms in plain view inside the vehicle.

Michels says the two male suspects were located and arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property obtained by a crime and theft.

Sgt. Bob Fogarty says another man, a prolific offender, was arrested for posessing a stolen bike and breach of probation on Monday, March 7.

For the last month, Fogarty says Kamloops RCMP has received several complaints about criminal activity in and around a particular residence on Sandpiper Drive.

"As a result, the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and uniformed members initiated and continued investigations in the area resulting in a number of recent enforcement actions related to this residence," he says in a release.

After the man's arrest on Monday, Kamloops RCMP executed a search warrant on the residence, in which they found more stolen property.

Fogarty says police did not speak publicly about the search warrant so officers could made additional arrests.
