Thumbs up: Banff World Media Festival to present Winkler with award of excellence

TORONTO - Henry Winkler is being honoured with an award of excellence at the Banff World Media Festival.

Organizers say the "Happy Days" and "Arrested Development" star will be feted at the Rockie Awards gala June 10, and will also be featured in a one-on-one interview at the festival.

Winkler's 40-plus years in the business include recent roles on "Parks and Recreation," "Childrens Hospital" and "Royal Pains."

He is also known as the co-author of a series of bestselling children's books and executive producer of shows including "MacGyver."

The award of excellence celebrates an individual whose body of work has "profoundly touched the lives of audiences around the world." Past honorees include Walter Cronkite, Nigel Lythgoe, Eugene Levy, Victor Garber and William Shatner.

The Banff World Media Festival is dedicated to media content production, broadcast and distribution within TV and digital media. It runs June 8 to 11.

"Having the opportunity to entertain audiences for over 40 years has been a blessing," Winkler said Wednesday in a statement.

"I am grateful and very humbled to be recognized by this great festival."
