TRU adding basketball and volleyball courts

KAMLOOPS - Thompson Rivers University is getting some fresh, new court space to encourage on campus outdoor activity.

By September it’s expected people will be able to play some basketball outside of the school's Old Main building. Three courts are being built, two for basketball and one for volley ball, says university vice-president Matt Milovick.

“We’ve got a real lack of outdoor facilities on this campus,” Milovick says. “There’s one outdoor court which needs some work.”

Now construction workers are on campus to add the three courts on some green space near the campus’s Old Main building and the House of Learning.

“We want something that's in a relatively high visible area,” he says. “We want people using them.”

The university’s student union and athletic department supports the idea, Milovick says.

The courts are expected to cost over $100,000 and be in place for Labour Day weekend, though the basketball courts rubberized surface may require some more curing time.
