KELOWNA – One of the Okanagan’s most historic and recognized sporting events is back this weekend for the 32nd year in a row.
The Kelowna Apple Triathlon is a 10 km run, 40 km bike and 1.5 km swim event that takes athletes along Lake Okanagan, up Knox Mountain and back down through Glenmore.
The fastest three men and women in each age group qualify for the Olympic Race of the 2015 World Championships in Chicago.
The main race takes place Sunday but there are also shorter races throughout the weekend for novices and first timers.
Organizers of the event are looking for volunteers who will receive a race t-shirt, refreshments and post-race volunteer party. There will also be draws for prizes including Air Canada flight tickets, beer for a year from Tree Brewing, a houseboat rental and a home gym.
Visit the Kelowna Apple Triathlon website for a complete list of road closures, detour routes and parking availability.
