Kids and their families flocked to Kelowna Family YMCA on Sunday for YMCA’s 9th annual Healthy Kids Day. This free, family event brought the community together for a day of activities centered around family health.
Engaging in healthy habits early in life sets the stage for future physical, social, emotional and mental development. Kids are our community’s future which is why YMCA Healthy Kids Day brings with it an important message.
This year’s event was a huge success, attracting close to 4,000 people to participate in active, heart pumping play in the fresh air and sunshine. Kids could be seen in every direction, playing, crafting, Zumba-ing and more. There were opportunities for kids to bounce, climb, run, dance, swim, experiment with yoga, laugh, skip, hula-hoop, and eat some healthy snacks. Everyone was able to participate in the action, adding a little more play in their day.
“Part of Healthy Kids Day is getting the message out that being healthy can be fun,” says Geoff Gowe, Program Manager at Kelowna Family Y. “The YMCA’s proven programs and services are available and open to everyone—ensuring that families can gain the tools to live healthy every day, within the walls of the Y and beyond.”
YMCA of Okanagan would like to thank its Healthy Kids Day sponsors Interior Savings, Tim Horton’s, Kelowna Capital News, and Sun FM as well as the many community partners, activity stations and volunteers who made this year’s event a success. It is because of their generosity and dedication that we are all able to build a solid foundation for a healthier community.
Last year, the YMCA of Okanagan served 28,323 individuals locally, helping each to live well and be active—60% of which were children, teens and young adults.
