TOKYO - Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard has pulled out of next week's Toray Pan Pacific Open as a result of the head injury she suffered at the U.S. Open earlier this month.

"I'm really disappointed to withdraw from The Toray Pan Pacific Open, but I haven't sufficiently recovered from the concussion I sustained while competing at the U.S. Open," Bouchard said in a statement on the WTA Tour website. "My fans in Japan are very special to me. I love playing there and I can't wait to go back next year."

Bouchard, the world No. 26 from Westmount, Que., has struggled this year but appeared to have turned the corner at the final Grand Slam of the season.

She reached the fourth round in singles play but slipped and fell in the locker-room after a mixed doubles match with partner Nick Kyrgios on Sept. 4. Bouchard pulled out of doubles competition the next day and withdrew from singles play on Sept. 6.

There was no immediate word on how long she might be out of action. An email message left with her agent was not immediately returned.

Ana Ivanovic is the defending champion at next week's US$881,100 Premier-tier event in Tokyo.
