Suspect in black face robs Kelowna House of Knives

KELOWNA – A Kelowna man was arrested on Friday for taking a large knife from a store in the mall and then threatening staff with it.

Kelowna RCMP were called to House of Knives in Orchard Park Mall on April 8 just before 10 a.m. with a report a man went behind the counter and stole a “large, edged weapon.”

“The suspect then allegedly threatened to harm the staff member on site if they called security, before fleeing on foot out of the mall towards Cooper Road,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.

He was wearing all black clothing and his face and arms were painted black.

“It wasn’t too difficult for our investigators, aided by the stores video surveillance footage, to locate, identify and arrest the suspect in the 200-block of Leon Avenue,” O’Donaghey says in the release.

A 21-year-old Kelowna man was taken into custody over the weekend and faces potential charges of robbery and fail to comply with a probation order.
