Sun Peaks thief cuffed in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Over the weekend police arrested a prolific offender with stolen property after a string of thefts at Sun Peaks.

On Saturday, May 20, police were called to Sun Peaks with a report of a suspicious person. A man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and hiding behind a rock near the top of Sunburst Drive in Sun Peaks, police say in a media release. Witnesses told officers he was scoping out the area.

RCMP checked the area with police dog services and were not able to locate the suspect.

Police received four different reports of thefts from vehicles that same day.

Later that night, police found the suspect in a white Toyota Matrix in the Star Lodge parking lot in Kamloops. The vehicle was reported as stolen from Penticton and the suspect driver was driving while prohibited. The 36-year-old Kamloops man was arrested with break and enter tools. The licence plates on the vehicle were reported stolen from a Kamloops home.

Police found stolen property from the Sun Peaks thefts in the suspect vehicle.

The suspect is still in police custody.
