Summer's party line up stretches into September

Penticton celebrates the renaming of a portion of Westminster Avenue East this Saturday.

PENTICTON - A street naming is cause for celebration in Penticton.

The free Front 2 Backstreet Bash will dedicate the street name change of a portion of Westminster Avenue East to Backstreet Boulevard this Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. It will also be the launch of the Penticton Creek Restoration Project.

Live music and dancing as well as market vendors will make their expected appearance. There will also be guided tours of the creek, downtown historical buildings and of street artwork, a ceremonial First Nation blessing and a Penticton Urban Gardens open house.

Also on Saturday will be the Roost is on Fire fundraising picnic at the Red Roost Winery on 891 Naramata Rd.

From noon to 5 p.m. picnic-goers can purchase lunch on the lawn around the vineyard, take part in outdoor games or visit the petting zoo. Penticton Fire Department staff will do demonstrations. Picnic baskets for 2 are $30 and kid baskets are $12. Wine by the glass or bottle will be available, and the proceeds from the day will go toward the Penticton Safety Village.

Those who cannot attend can also take part in the fundraiser, with Red Rooster donating $2 for every bottle purchsed by phone, website or in-store on Sept. 14.
