Students to learn what it means to be digital citizens in a digital world

KELOWNA – Okanagan Mission Secondary School’s Social Media class, in conjunction with the Central Okanagan School District, are excited to welcome keynote speaker Dr. Alec Couros, Professor of Educational Technology and Media from the Faculty of Education with the University of Regina.

Dr. Couros will facilitate sessions around what it means to be a digital citizen in today’s increasingly digital world.

?#SoMeSummit is a student initiated and led 3 day conference occurring in the Central Okanagan School District on November 27, 28, and 29.

The Summit invites students, administrators, teachers and parents to begin district-wide conversations around what it means to be a positive, contributing digital citizen and how the use of digital media can be used to enhance student learning.

The three days will include an open forum parent night on Thursday, November 28th at 6:30 PM at Hollywood Road Education Services and will address: How might we navigate the challenges and affordances of the digital age in the service of both protecting and empowering our children? The Summit will be the first of its kind in Canada featuring student led sessions which will provide opportunities for all school stakeholders to co-construct our digital futures. Participants will be empowered in the development of digital literacy through various collaborative activities that integrate digital technologies in critically reflective and creative ways.
