Strip mall fire forces closure of Tranquille

A roof fire erupted at 361 Tranquille Road this afternoon while a crew was working on repairs.

KAMLOOPS - A report of a roof fire at the Village Square strip mall, located at 361 Tranquille Road kept firefighters busy this afternoon and forced the closure of a section of road during the evening traffic rush.

The fire was called in at about 3:35 p.m. Three trucks were called to the scene and six firefighters went up on the roof. The area on fire is above one of the vacant stores just behind The Cash Store.

Police closed off the section of Tranquille directly in front of the mall, but have since opened it to traffic again.

An employee of Big Don's Super Pawn, also located at the mall, says work was being conducted on the roof when the fire erupted. The fire is currently under control and cleanup is underway.

More to come.
