WEST KELOWNA - The hugely popular ‘Spooktacular Pumpkin Walk’ returns to the Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park later this month.

On Sunday, October 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, carved pumpkins (with an LED candle light/tea light inside) can be dropped off at the regional park, located just off Whitworth Road in West Kelowna. Slip on your Halloween costume and head to the park between 5:00 and 8:00 pm to view the lighted pumpkins lining the pathways around the nut orchard. Bring along a donation for the Central Okanagan Food Bank and while you’re there, vote for your favourite pumpkins.

“Families, schools, businesses and sports teams that want to demonstrate their pumpkin carving ingenuity can enter the ‘Best of’ competitions including Scariest, Cutest and Funniest pumpkin” says Communications Officer Bruce Smith. “We’ve got some great prizes to award and hot beverages for everyone to savour. West Kelowna Fire Rescue will be on hand with a fire truck for photos and cooking up hot dogs to say thanks to the community. Don’t forget to visit the nearby Cove Lakeside Resort for some entertainment, warm beverages and treats.”

Smith adds, “To ease traffic and parking at the event and for our park neighbours, we encourage people to grab a ride on our free ‘Pumpkin Shuttle Bus’. Everyone riding will be entered into a draw for a prize. Park and lock your vehicle at George Pringle Elementary School, 3770 Elliott Road in West Kelowna and approximately every half hour starting at 3:30 pm the bus will shuttle you to the park then make a return trip to the school. The last bus will leave the Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park at 8:30 pm, returning to the school parking lot.”

Traffic control attendants will be at the school and park to help direct traffic. West Kelowna Community Policing volunteers will be on hand at the school parking area. Please don’t park on local streets as they are narrow and the vehicle congestion can pose a safety hazard for pedestrians and emergency personnel.
