Canada's St-Gelais, Hamelin win short track World Cup 500s

DRESDEN, Germany - Canadian speed skaters Marianne St-Gelais and Charles Hamelin won 500 metre races at a short track World Cup meet on Sunday.

St-Gelais, from Saint-Felicien, Que., captured the women's race in 43.080 seconds, ahead of Britain's Elise Christie (43.115) and Dutch skater Lara van Ruijven (43.622).

Hamelin, from Levis, Que., clocked 40.251 to edge Russian skaters Semion Elistratov (40.311) and Dmitry Migunov (40.394) in the men's.

Choi Min-jeong led a South Korean 1-2-3 in the second 1,500 of the weekend, clocking a 2:26.413 to beat Noh Do-hee (2:27.063) and Kim A-lang (2:27.147)

There was further success for South Korea in the men's 1,500, with Seo Yi Ra winning in 2:22.789, ahead of Canada's Alexander Fathoullin in 2:22.824 and compatriot Kwak Yoon-gy in 2:22.838.

Italy won the women's 3000 relay while Russia claimed the men's 5000 relay.
