Sorrento man drowns at Shuswap Lake

CHASE - A 74-year-old man has been identified as a drowning victim at Shuswap Lake over the weekend.

Gene Bretecher who was from Sorrento, died after falling into the lake without a life jacket at around 1 p.m. Sept. 15.

He fell out of his boat about 30 m from shore. His wife called for help and a retired RCMP sergeant and former dive team member was on scene within minutes, assisting in pulling the man from the water.

Emergency services arrived on the scene and CPR was conducted however the man could not be resuscitated. The B.C. Coroners Service continues to investigate the incident.
