TORONTO - It has taken just 40 games for Sebastian Giovinco to rise to the top of Toronto FC's all-time scoring list.
Giovinco's two goals Saturday in Montreal against the Impact increased his total to 28, tying him with Dwayne De Rosario for the club's franchise lead in MLS play. It took the now-retired De Rosario 76 games to set the club record.
After tying Columbus forward Kei Kamara for the league lead with 22 goals last season, Giovinco has had a hand in every Toronto goal this season, scoring six and assisting on two. The 29-year-old Italian can move past De Rosario in the Toronto books with a goal Sunday in Portland.
De Rosario still leads with 33 goals in all competitions, adding in Canadian Championship and CONCACAF Champions League play. Giovinco has 29 goals for TFC in all competitions.
Giovinco's MLS club records include career assists (18), game-winning goals (10), penalty-kick goals (5), goals per game (0.7), hat tricks (2), multi-goal games (six) and shots (218). He is tied with De Rosario for shots on goal (85).
The Atomic Ant has shown no signs of slowing down after a banner debut in 2015 that saw him win the league's Landon Donovan MVP Trophy, Newcomer of the Year and Golden Boot as the top scorer in MLS.
Also in 2015:
— Giovinco's 22 goals and 16 assists set an MLS record for the most goals and assists combined in a single season.
— He became the first player in MLS history to record at least 20 goals and 10 assists in a single season.
— He was involved in two or more goals in 12 games during the 2015 regular season, the most of any player in MLS history.
— He broke a 15-year-old MLS single-season record for shots in a season (181).
— He won back-to-back MLS Player of the Month awards in July and August and was named MLS Player of the Week three times.
