Small fire forces evacuation at Mission Meadows

Fire crews responded to a fire at Mission Meadows around the noon hour Tuesday.

KELOWNA - A small fire in the kitchen of a first floor condo on Casorso Road forced the evacuation of the Mission Meadows complex Tuesday.

The building's fire alarm system notified Kelowna Fire at 11:39 a.m. at the same time a neighbour noticed smoke coming from unit 108 directly opposite the main entrance and lobby. Captain Dennis Miller says the fire started and was contained to the kitchen.

The residents of the condo were not home at the time and say their young child was with their nanny grocery shopping at the time.

Approximately 30 people from the building were evacuated and were waiting in the parking lot for fire crews to douse the flames.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause and extent of damage but standing water was visible in the unit as well as the front lobby.

The couple is insured.
