SUN PEAKS - Ski teams from Whistler, Mt Tremblant, and Edmonton hit the slopes of Sun Peaks Resort Monday morning.

The B.C. Interior resort is the first to provide skiing on its alpine slopes this season.

“Sun Peaks became known as an early season training venue in the lead up to the 2010 Games,” Darcy Alexander, VP and GM of Sun Peaks Resort, says. “The Austrian National Team trained at Sun Peaks in the years leading up to the Games and established Sun Peaks’ reputation. Since that time teams from across Canada and the USA have chosen to train here.”

Ski team coaches cite reliable snow conditions, diverse terrain, and the convenience of the slope side village as lead reasons for selecting Sun Peaks.

"Mountain crews have been making snow since late October,” Erik Meertens, director of mountain operations, says. “Combined with recent natural snow and extensive mountain preparation, Sun Peaks is able to offer excellent early season snow conditions each year.”

Sun Peaks Resort opens to public for downhill and cross country skiing on Saturday, Nov. 21.
