VERNON – SilverStar’s mountain bike park has secured second place in the annual MTBParks Riders Choice Awards for Western Canada for the third year in a row.

Riders Choice winners are selected based on input from mountain bikers throughout Canada and the United States who participate in a lengthy survey delving into every aspect of their favourite mountain bike trails and destinations. Each spring, the announcement of the winners is a popular and handy guide for planning summer road trips to mountain resort bike parks.

“The award is a great way to kick off summer,” said bike park manager, Cam Sorensen. “Thanks to all our riders who made it happen. Right now, we’re starting to get the park ready – installing bike carriers on the Comet chair and looking forward to getting out to prep the trails in a few weeks.”

“There are big expansion plans for this summer with continuing work on our signature 30+ kilometre XC loop, Beowulf, which is designed to be a destination ride,” continued Sorensen. “We’re also going to be rebuilding Rock Star. It was the original black diamond flow jump trail in the park and it’s time for a facelift.”

This year’s Riders Choice award comes on top of widespread recognition and accolades for SilverStar’s bike park, including Silver Level Ride Centre status from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and #3 ranked bike park in North America by unofficialnetworks.com.

SilverStar is opening its 28th year of bike park operations with an early season bonus weekend on June 18-19. Full summer operations start up on Thursday, June 23 and run seven days a week through Monday, September 5.

Visitors to the Star this season will enjoy the return of popular events like B.C. Cup and the Mile High Wine & Music Festival, along with a variety of summer camps and festivals.

Other summer news includes more flexible season pass offerings in response to guest feedback. Downhill riders can purchase a Parents Season Pass that can be shared by two adults. XC mountain bikers get easier access to the mountain’s upper trails with the new Enduro Season Pass, which provides one chairlift ride per day.
