SHUSWAP - An evacuation order is still in effect for some residents located near a debris flow.
The evacuation began last Wednesday for people living around McIntyre Creek near Salmon Arm.
According to a geotechnical engineer and environmental geoscientist, a collection of debris is still lodged in the creek. They also identified water pooling around the site.
The pooling of water, along with Environment Canada’s weather forecast of possible thunderstorms for the Shuswap area, means the evacuation order sticks for properties located at the mouth of McIntyre Creek until remedial work is performed to remove the risk and hazard.
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure crews continue work to repair the damage to Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road.
Due to the instability of the area and other safety concerns, the public is asked to keep clear of the incident site. If you are required to travel through the work site, it’s a no stop zone.
