Semi causes chain reaction crash in Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM – A semi truck caused a chain reaction of fender benders after the driver ran into a vehicle stopped at a red light yesterday afternoon.

A pickup truck and car were both waiting at a red light on the Trans Canada Highway near Ross Road NE in Salmon Arm at about 2:30 p.m., Jan. 18, Staff Sgt. Scott West says in a release.

West says the semi truck, hauling a load of lumber, was following too closely and rear-ended the car, which then rear-ended the truck in front of it.

Police issued a violation ticket to the driver of the semi under the Motor Vehicle Act.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital as a precaution, West says.

The pickup truck and semi both sustained minor damage, but the car was heavily damaged.
