KELOWNA - Two new middle schools in the Central Okanagan have received the go ahead from the provincial government.

Planning for a new middle school in Rutland has officially received the green light, while planning for a new middle school in Lake Country is underway, according to a media release.

“I’m very excited to see these projects move forward, thanks to the hard work of both our staff and our advocates in Victoria,” Central Okanagan School Board chair Moyra Baxter says in the release. “Our district is growing quickly and I’m proud of the working partnerships that are moving us closer to meeting the needs of more students.”

In order to get to the next steps of approval, the project report for Rutland Middle School’s expansion and reconfiguration will go before the Ministry of Education by September, 2017.

Lake Country Junior Middle School is currently waiting on final funding decisions from the province.
