OSOYOOS - Hold onto your wallets — Osoyoos RCMP say two scams were attempted over the holiday weekend.
The first reports came in to RCMP Sunday about someone calling, claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency, telling people they owed money. Targets were told if they didn't hand over $750 immediately, they would be arrested the following day.
In a second scam reported Monday, people shopping on Kijiji for a new rental property in Osoyoos and Oliver called a phone number in a fraudulent ad. The person on the line stated they were in Ohio taking care of a sick family member, but renters could deposit money and the key would be mailed out once payment was received.
Osoyoos RCMP want to remind the public to confirm all information before sending money or paying bills and offers information about common scams and what to do if you believe you may be the victim of a scam.
