SALMON ARM - Higher than normal theft from vehicles incidences this year has RCMP in Salmon Arm concerned.

Staff Sgt. Scott West of the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment is asking residents of the community to help police combat the crime by locking their vehicles both day and night.

If this one task had been done through February, West says theft from vehicles would have been reduced by 50 per cent in that month alone.

West also notes theft from vehicles had been dropping over the winter months, but adds as the spring temperatures move into the region, these types of cases will increase.

“Help us to help you — lock out auto crime,” West says in a press release.

Anyone with information that could help police with crime is asked to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
