KELOWNA - A former Okanagan Rockets player will have the opportunity to wear a Team Canada jersey.
Joe Gatenby, who currently plays for the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, was named to the roster of Team Pacific on Thursday in the 2013-2014 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
The event takes place in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia from December 29th to January 4th.
Gatenby was a huge part of the Okanagan Rockets blue line last season when the club advanced to the BCMML championship series for the 1st time in five years.
He posted 4 goals and 20 assists in 38 games for the Okanagan Rockets last season, while adding 1 assist in 8 playoff games.
“I’m so excited for Joe” said Rockets General Manager David Michaud. “I had a change to be part of Team Pacific 2 years ago and it was without question one of the best hockey experiences of my life. It’s a bit of a whirlwind for the guy’s and they have to come together quickly. This will be a tremendous thrill for Joe and we are all very proud of him.”
Joining Gatenby with Team Pacific will be current Kelowna Rockets teammate Nick Merkley.
