Rob Ford can work 1-2 days a week as he recovers from cancer surgery: doctors

TORONTO - Former Toronto mayor Rob Ford has been cleared to work one or two days a week as he continues his recovery from cancer surgery.

A spokesman for Ford said in a statement that the now city councillor received the news from his doctors after a followup exam on Thursday.

Dan Jacobs said doctors are "extremely pleased" with Ford's progress and that the councillor can gradually increase his workload to a full-time basis.

Ford was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer as he was campaigning for re-election last September.

He abandoned his mayoralty bid and ran for a council seat instead while his brother Doug ran unsuccessfully for mayor in the October vote.

Ford's surgery in May followed several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation which he said had reduced his tumour to an operable size.
