Reminder of citizens’ survey deadline

West Kelowna residents are reminded to return their 2014 Citizens’ Survey by Monday, June 30 at 4:00 p.m.

Residents who did not receive a survey in the mail can obtain a copy by visiting www.districtofwestkelowna.ca and looking under Departments, Administrative and Protective Services, Citizens’ Survey 2014. The survey is also available for pick up in person at Municipal Hall, 2760 Cameron Road, West Kelowna.

One thousand surveys have been mailed out to randomly-selected West Kelowna taxpayers with the primary objective of determining how taxpayers of West Kelowna evaluate municipal services. This year the survey was revamped to enhance clarity, accuracy and relevance of findings and to reduce the time it takes to complete.

This is the seventh annual Citizens' Survey conducted by the District and is one of the tools Council uses in setting priorities for the municipality during budget deliberations.
Residents are asked to comment on quality and importance on a variety of services. The data is then broken down into a graph that clearly indicates when a larger than normal discrepancy exists between service level and importance. Discrepancies determine if a service exceeds, meets or falls short of taxpayers' expectations.

Municipal funds are limited, so a tool that identifies the priorities of the taxpayer is extremely beneficial to the District, particularly when comparisons from previous years are available and trends begin to form.

As in previous years, the 2014 survey was created using District of West Kelowna staff and resources, with only printing and mailing costs associated. Similar polls cost several thousands of dollars.
