KAMLOOPS – Locals can sign up now to take part in the first ever Downtown Pride Parade.

The parade, which will wind through Kamloops’ core on Sunday, Aug. 20, is open to any individuals, community organizations and local businesses who want to join in, according to a press release.

People can walk, bike or use any other sort of human powered transportation, but motorized vehicles won't be allowed. Organizations have already been eager to participate in the parade, Kamloops Pride president Kirstin McLaughlin says.

“We’ve seen an incredible response in terms of registrations so far,” McLaughlin says in the release. “It’s obvious the community – both LGBTQ2S+ and otherwise – is eager not only to observe the parade, but to be part of history and walk in it.”

People wishing to register can do so here. Registration closes Aug. 4.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. on Aug. 20 and participants need to arrive an hour in advance.

A series of events are planned for the week leading up to the parade on the Sunday.
