Regional District of Central Okanagan board meeting: March 12, 2015

March 16, 2015 - 10:22 AM

CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Notes from the March 12, 2015 Regional District of Central Okanagan regular meeting.

Second Regional Rescue Program Team

The Regional Board has approved funding a second regional rescue team.  The District of West Kelowna Fire Rescue already provides Auto Extrication, Ice Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, Low Embankment Rescue, Technical High-Angle Rope Rescue and Confined Space Rescue in its own municipality and will provide the services as required in Peachland, the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area and Westbank First Nation Reserves #9 and #10.  It’s anticipated this second fully trained team will result in faster response times on the west side of Okanagan Lake and offer greater capacity to respond when needed to major regional emergency events.  The Regional District agreement with West Kelowna will be for a five year term.

Regional Growth Strategy Context Statement

The Regional Board has approved a proposed Regional Context Statement from the District of West Kelowna.   The statement, to be included in the District of West Kelowna Official Community Plan is required under Provincial legislation.  A Regional Context Statement links the Official Community Plan (OCP) of a municipality to the Regional Growth Strategy and shows how the OCP supports and aligns with the goals and strategies set out in the Regional Growth Strategy.
