CENTRAL OKANAGAN - Advance Voting opportunities are over now in this year’s Regional District election for Central Okanagan West Electoral Area Director.

In the two advance voting opportunities 227 people cast ballots to choose a new Regional Board Director. That compares with 104 advance votes in the 2011 election and 114 in 2008.

“This Saturday, November 15th is General Voting Day in the Central Okanagan West Regional District Director election," RDCO spokesperson Bruce Smith says in a media release. "The polling places will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for resident and non-resident electors.”

There are two locations in Central Okanagan West. Qualified voters may cast a ballot at either Constable Neil Bruce Middle School, located at 2010 Daimler Drive or the Killiney Beach Community Hall, located at 516 Udell Road in Killiney Beach.

Voters must bring along two pieces of acceptable identification that proves their current residence and who they are and one must have a signature on it. Qualified voters must be at least 18 years of age on the date that they vote; a Canadian Citizen, a resident of British Columbia for six months prior to voting day and a resident of their Electoral Area for at least 30 days before voting day. Non-resident electors must have owned property in the electoral area for at least 30 days prior to voting and must also complete a consent form signed by the majority of the owners of the property.

Smith reminds that those people who meet the voting qualifications and live on Westbank First Nation Reserves #9 and #10 are eligible to vote in the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area Director election.

As well, those voting by mail ballot must have their completed ballots returned to the Chief Election Officer prior to the close of voting at 8 p.m. on Saturday in order to be counted.

If people have any questions about voting and qualifications and whether they live within the Electoral Area boundary, they can check out the Elections Information links and detailed map on the Regional District website, email elections@cord.bc.ca or call 250-763-4918.  After the polls close results will be available as they are received at www.regionaldistrict.com.electionresults.

For general information on General Voting day only while the polls are open, please call the Election Hotline at 250-469-6339.
