Regional board to elect new chair July 4

The Regional District Okanagan Similkameen board will elect a new chair on July 4.

PENTICTON — The regional board will hold an election July 4 to fill the chair Dan Ashton left after stepping down to be Penticton's MLA.

Ashton resigned on Wednesday. Since his absence vice-chair Mark Pendergraft has been acting chair.

Chief Administrative Officer Bill Newell said the board will elect one of its own members to the top spot. This will mean an empty seat on the board however.

Newell said since it's Ashton leaving the organization it will be up to the City of Penticton to appoint another council member. Acting mayor Garry Litke and councillors Judy Sentes, John Vassilaki and Andrew Jakubeit already populate the regional district leadership. That leaves the city with councillors Wesley Hopkin and Helena Konanz to choose from.

The board will have a regular public meeting on June 20.
