To mark the beginning of Waste Reduction Week the RDCO Waste Reduction Office is running a month-long contest for residents who download the Central Okanagan MyWaste app and take the “Be a Better Recycler” quiz. The winner of the contest gets to choose from two local prizes:

  • A season pass at Big White Ski Resort (any age group)
  • Or a $300.00 gift card at Summerhill Pyramid Winery’s Sunset Organic Bistro

Residents who share the recycling quiz on social media or email increase their odds of winning by 5.

Waste Reduction Week runs from October 17th-23rd but the contest runs even longer from October 17th-November 17th. Waste Reduction Week is a nationally recognized and celebrated annual campaign that builds awareness and promotes action around issues surrounding waste.

How the My Waste app helps residents reduce waste

  • Provides you with a personalized collection calendar so you can stay “on top” of collection dates and holiday schedule changes
  • Sends recycling and garbage collection reminders on a weekly basis straight to your smartphone
  • Provides a “What Goes Where” search tool that lets you type in specific materials and find exactly how and where to recycle them
  • Provides a “Report a Problem” feature that enables you to report issues like missed collection or illegal dumping
