Recalcitrant driver charged after blocking Naramata Road

FILE PHOTO

PENTICTON - A driver who passed out in his vehicle in the middle of Naramata Road on the weekend found himself in trouble after refusing to cooperate with Penticton RCMP.

Cpl. Ted Manchulenko says police received a call around 4 a.m. on Saturday, March 25 about a vehicle blocking both the northbound and southbound lanes of Naramata Road.

The man in the vehicle, which was parked in the middle of the roadway, refused to respond to police. He locked the doors and covered himself with a blanket.

Manchulenko says the keys were in the ignition and the officers were worried he would start it up and drive off, so they broke a window to get inside.

The man continued to be uncooperative after police brought him to the Penticton detachment for further investigation.

Manchulenko says the Naramata man was charged with impaired driving and refusal to provide a breath sample.
