RCMP want to speak with man who offered North Okanagan child a ride

ARMSTRONG - Police are investigating a suspicious occurrence in the North Okanagan last week in which a man reportedly offered a child a ride.

The incident occurred last Wednesday, May 24, in the area of Noble Road in Spallumcheen, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in a media release issued today, May 30.

An elementary school-aged student was biking in the area, when an unknown man asked if the child wanted a ride, Moskaluk says.

The media release does not give the child’s age or gender.

“The Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP would like to speak with this person in order to fully determine the motive of the exchange with the student,” Moskaluk says.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle, which is described as a white GMC pickup with some rust around the box and a dent in the rear bumper. There was a black bar in the box area which could have been either a roll bar or off road light bar, Moskaluk says.

The driver was described as a man with a darker complexion, with a small moustache, short hair, and described as being in his 30s. He was also observed to have a tattoo on his arm of a cat or tiger with a skull and also had an ear piercing.

“This appears to be an isolated incident which is being actively investigated,” Moskaluk says.

The RCMP ask that anyone with information about this incident contact the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP in Armstrong at 250-546-3028 or via Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
