Police target 'johns' in sex trade

Kelowna Mounties have turned their focus to the downtown sex trade in recent weeks and arrested buyers, not sellers.

Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section and Downtown Enforcement Unit teamed up earlier this month as "part of a continued initiative by the Kelowna RCMP to reduce crime in Kelowna."

They arrested eleven men for Communicating for the Purpose of Obtaining Sexual Services of a Prostitute. The ages of the men range from early 30s to mid 70s. All of the accused men were released from police custody to appear in court at a later date or attend counselling via the Prostitution Offenders Program.

The Kelowna RCMP will continue to target street level crime and prolific offenders in an effort to reduce crime in Kelowna and increase the effectiveness of policing in our community.
