Police seek details on alleged sex assault in West Kelowna

West Kelowna RCMP continue to investigate an allegation of sexual assault in a West Kelowna neighbourhood, but aren't ringing alarm bells yet.

Police haven't said much since a local news outlet published interviews with neighbours in the area who said a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted while walking on a trail near Glenrosa middle school after 1 a.m. Saturday. But police didn't issue a media release over the weekend and haven't said much about it since.

"We received a report of a sexual assault," RCMP spokesperson Const. Kris Clark said. "Investigation is in early stages and is ongoing and we continue to work to verify the legitimacy. No details are available."

Just a week prior another young woman was viciously attacked on the Mission Creek Greenway. Clark says it's unusual to see such a close incidence of sexual assaults committed by attackers unknown to the victim. Typically these reports come in once every couple of years, Clark says. He says police are working through tips but don't have a description of the attacker yet.
