Police officer assaulted near Pritchard

KAMLOOPS - A passing motorist lent assistance to an officer who was allegedly assaulted during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon in the Pritchard area.

RCMP Senior Media Relations Officer Sgt. Rob Vermeulen says the officer began an impaired driving investigation on a pickup truck, containing three people, around 4:40 p.m., July 5. The driver pulled over on Stony Flats Road and along with one of the occupants allegedly began assaulting the officer before all three fled the scene.

A passing motorist saw the officer and called for assistance. The officer was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The three occupants were all located and arrested later that night. Charges of assaulting a police officer are pending for the driver and one occupant. They will be appearing in Kamloops court Aug. 7.

Vermeulen says because the case is before the courts no further information will be released at this time.
