ENDERBY - RCMP have set up a temporary office at Mabel Lake to be ready for any emergency calls that might come from the few still trapped behind the washout.

A log jam on Dale Lake caused Cook Creek to flood, washing out Mabel Lake Road last Friday and knocked out power and phone lines serving those in the area.

RCMP Insp. McNamara, the operations officer for Kingfisher/Mabel Lake raised concerns about the safety of those who remain stranded, so Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP installed two officers at a temporary office to respond to any calls requiring police attention in the slide area.

The two officers are patrolling the roads behind the washout using a vehicle donated by a local resident.

Mounties have responded to two calls since setting up.
