PENTICTON - Penticton RCMP report a happy ending to an incident that could have had tragic consequences.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police received a call at approximately 4:45 a.m. Saturday morning, October 3, of an 18-month-old girl crying in the street at Eckhardt Avenue and Argyle Street.

Police located the child and walked with her down the street, and came across a residence with its front door ajar.

The child apparently opened the door and left the residence without her babysitter’s knowledge.

The child was taken to hospital due to low core body temperature. Family members attended, as did representatives of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The child was found to be safe and no charges were laid in the incident.
